Executive Summary: A Century of Labor Union Activism in Palestine: An Assessment of Regulation and Governance

This study aims to analyze democratic practices within labor unions and professional associations through the prism of key indicators, including governance, membership, elections, and their impact on leadership structures. It also explores the representation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWD). Addressing unions’ funding sources and mechanisms, the paper investigates some of the factors behind the rise of grassroots movements, such as teacher strikes, disability rights campaigns, and social security activism, which have taken shape outside the traditional frameworks of labor unions and professional associations.
