The Engineering of Death: War, Hunger, and Disability

The State of South Africa's lawsuit against the Israeli occupation provided detailed evidence about the genocidal practices committed by the Israeli occupation against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, as it became clear in the current genocidal war that has been going on for more than 5 months that it is implemented through an integrated policy and a clear death engineering aimed at eventually eliminating the Palestinian presence in the Gaza Strip. In this regard, the partners in the Stars of Hope Society for the Empowerment of Women with Disabilities (SHS) and the Social and Economic Policies Monitor (AlMarsad) issued a seventh position paper highlighting the magnitude and extent of genocide directed against persons with disabilities, especially in light of the provision of aid through airdrops in small quantities that reduce access for persons with disabilities, as a result of the destruction of all forms of accessibility available for various disabilities, and the loss of their assistive devices, which further complicates their access to aid, especially since the magnitude of the risk in the mission is high, almost life threatening. Humanitarian policies in distributing aid in shelters make disability an additional cause of hunger due to marginalization and exclusion.
In this context, we call on partner institutions and international institutions, especially UNRWA, to assume their responsibility towards protecting civilians throughout the Gaza Strip, with the need to apply humanitarian standards that respond to the needs and requirements of persons with disabilities, especially women and children, in the distribution of various aids, in order to ensure that persons with disabilities are not trapped in the trap of the triad of death, murder, hunger and disease due to inappropriate distributions that lead to more suffering inflicted on them.
